Obituary of Virginia O’Brien

December 18, 2020

Virginia M. O'Brien, 98, of NYC passed away on December 18, 2020 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Vincent M. O'Brien, who predeceased her in 2013. Virginia was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 8, 1922 and moved to Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan when she married Vincent in 1949. Virginia was the eldest of four children of Henry T. and Alice Mundy (nee Mullin), both deceased. Virginia is a direct descendent of Samuel Fuller, a passenger on the Mayflower.

Virginia was beautiful, smart, and talented. She loved reading, travel, and watching classic movies. Virginia was a devoted Catholic and patron of Immaculate Conception Church. As a working professional, Virginia worked for Travelers Insurance Company and American Express, among others, until her retirement. Her most endearing legacy was love of family and friends, especially her four children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was generous with her time, talent, and her thoughtful gifts.

Virginia lived a very long and full life and will be sorely missed by everyone. Virginia is survived by her four adult children, Kathy Brullo and her husband Anthony, Kevin, Tom and his wife Francine, and Barry and his wife Patricia; grandchildren, Robert Brullo, Alyssa Ours, Christopher Brullo, Laura, Eric, Sean, and Michael; great grandchildren Natalie and Anthony.

The O'Brien family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at Bellevue Hospital for their exceptional care and support in Virginia's final days.

The O'Briens were dear friends of my father Jay Riefe, when he passed away I kept in touch with them for many years. Virginia had a full and happy life, I am glad she is at peace with her kind and funny husband.
