Obituary of Genevieve Boylan
January 17, 2020
New York City -
Genevieve "Honey" Boylan, 98, passed peacefully from this life on January 17, 2020.
"Honey" was born on August 25, 1921, parents Patrick and Genevieve (nee Owens) in the West Side of Manhattan, known as "Hell's Kitchen". The family moved to East 36th Street and Second Avenue, where "Honey" attended St. Gabriel's Grammar School and Washington Irving High School. Her brother James died while serving in World War II, and her younger sister, Anna, passed away a few years ago.
She married Patrick Boylan in 1953, and they had two children, devout care-giving daughter Ann, and son Patrick, who passed after a battle with cancer in 1995. "Honey" was a devoted Catholic and patron of Immaculate Conception Church, where she ran their bingo games for a time. She loved to play bingo with many of her friends until her passing. She led a full life and enjoyed her family and friends through out her time with us.
Genevieve was a resident of Stuy Town at 3 Stuy Oval since 1985, and then moved to Peter Cooper Village in 1996 at building #440, where she had many dear friends. She enjoyed crocheting, and bocce, where she earned many first place awards at Woodlock Pines and Villa Roma. She also loved the casino playing the slots with her devoted daughter, Ann. Of course she loved playing bingo with her friends from Club 22, as well as the Stuy town Community Center.
She was employed by Chase Bank as a Key Punch Operator for over 30 years. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a woman of strong moral fiber, honest, and a good friend to many people who knew her well. A true Yankee fan, and fan of Manhattan College, from where her son, Patrick, graduated.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Ann, ever at her mom's side through her life, as well as family relatives, Dorothy Enright from Florida; Jimmy Steiner from Nashville, NC; John Steiner from Queens Village, NY and Gerry Ryan, from Orefield, Pa.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, January 22 from 2:00PM until 7:00PM at the Andrett Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012; phone 212-475-2024. Funeral Mass at 10:30AM on Thursday, January 23 at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 East 14th Street, Manhattan. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.

One of the nicest things about living where I do is that Honey was my neighbor, in an adjacent apartment, for many years. She was a treasure of a person and her generous smile was always present and always uplifting. She was a very bright light on the floor. I will never forget Honey -- this remarkable, kind, lovely woman. I am very fortunate to have known her and will miss her greatly. She raised an amazing daughter whose tender loving care was always evident. Here's to Ann! Her mother was very proud of her! And here's to Honey, who graced us all!!!

Miss you already, my good friend "Honey Bunny", as I always called you.
Still laugh when I think of the mind games we played together, as well as being
your team mate in the bocce tournaments with your daughter Ann. You were
a good player who always reprimanded me if I made a poor shot.
Enjoyed our dinners together with you and your daughter, Ann.
Rest in Peace, you will always bring a smile to my face thinking of your
witty, funny remarks. I am sure Heaven has a bocce team waiting for you.
Your friend.
